Self-assembling 268×90×80 mm box for cake rolls and desserts

This elongated self-assembling box was produced for a confectionery manufacturer: packaging for Swiss rolls, long cakes and sets of pastries arranged in a single row. The box is die-cut from a single flat blank and folds together without glue — the packaging is stored and shipped flat, takes up minimal warehouse space and is assembled in a matter of seconds right before the order goes out.

The finished size is 268×90×80 mm, from a 424×421 mm flat blank. The lid is hinged with a locking tab; the end flaps close the structure when the lid is shut, so the box holds its shape and does not spring open while being carried.

The construction was developed individually: a dedicated cutting die was made for the required dimensions and folding scheme. That is not the only possible route — the plant holds a library of more than 3,000 existing cutting dies, and quite often the required format is already among them: in that case the customer pays nothing for tooling development and receives the run sooner. A custom construction is justified when the product has non-standard dimensions, or when the packaging needs to look different from off-the-shelf solutions.

The material is GC1 cellulose cardboard, 290 g/m²: a coated outer side for high-quality printing and a clean white reverse. The weight matches the length of the box — the packaging does not bend when held in the middle.

Printing is offset, CMYK, 4+0: a full-colour image on the outer side, with the reverse left unprinted. The artwork is a dense blue-and-white floral pattern with roses, birds and butterflies in the manner of porcelain painting. It runs across every panel of the blank, including the walls, end panels and flaps, so no white board shows along the edges of the assembled box.

Matte roll lamination is applied over the print: it removes glare, deepens the colour and gives a soft tactile surface, while protecting the image from scuffing, moisture and fingerprints. Post-press finishing accounts for a small share of the packaging cost, yet it is usually what decides whether a customer perceives the product as premium.

Order type — packaging. Full production cycle in Chișinău (Moldova): structural design and an individual cutting die, prepress, offset CMYK printing, matte roll lamination, die-cutting. The finished boxes are delivered flat and assembled without glue.
