Rigid box made of bookbinding board with a magnetic lid: premium packaging for delicacies

This 155×120×40 mm gift box is an example of rigid box packaging produced by the Pergament printing house in Chișinău, Moldova. Packaging of this class is chosen for products where the box is part of the experience: delicacies, black caviar, fine spirits, jewellery, cosmetics, and corporate gifts.

The structural core of the box is 2 mm bookbinding board. Unlike an ordinary folding carton made of thin board, a rigid box does not bend: it holds its geometry and conveys a sense of solidity the moment the customer picks it up. The rigid frame is lined with a printed liner on the outside and an end-paper lining on the inside — the board core is fully concealed, so the box looks flawless from every angle.

The lid is designed as a hinged flap with hidden magnets. The magnetic lid opens in a single motion and closes with a soft pull — the box can be opened and closed countless times without losing its appearance, and after the gift is presented it often stays in use as a keepsake case.

Inside the box sits a multi-layer insert: a board base, a 20 mm shock-absorbing foam layer, and a liner facing that matches the colour of the packaging. Die-cut recesses in the insert hold the tin and the serving accessory: the contents are held securely in transit, and when the box is opened the product is presented neatly, as if in a display case.

The box is offset-printed with Pantone spot colours: deep Pantone 288 blue sets the brand colour, while bronze adds a metallic sheen to the graphics. The surface is protected with anti-scratch silky roll lamination — a soft-touch film that feels velvety and resists scratches and fingerprints. The logo and lettering are applied with gold hot-foil stamping using a custom-made die, and the foiling of the lid is done on the already assembled box — a high-precision operation available only to manufacturers with a strong finishing department. It is precisely the finishing — the soft-touch surface, metallic graphics and gold foil — that turns the box from mere packaging into a brand carrier.

The construction was developed individually: the set of cutting dies was made for the exact dimensions of the box and its insert. Where a standard geometry suits the project, clients can draw on Pergament’s library of more than 3,000 ready-made cutting dies, which shortens lead times and reduces the cost of the order.

Custom cardboard packaging in Moldova: the Pergament printing house produces rigid boxes and premium gift packaging in a full production cycle — from structural design and prepress to offset printing, lamination, hot-foil stamping, liner mounting and die-cutting.
