Pergament manufactures rigid boxes — setup boxes wrapped in paper over 1.5–3 mm greyboard (bookbinding board): lid and base (two-piece) boxes, magnetic closure boxes, shoulder/neck boxes, telescopic boxes, sleeves, drawer boxes and book-style boxes. Rigid boxes do not fold and keep their shape, which is why they are chosen for wine and spirits, cosmetics, confectionery sets, jewellery, electronics and corporate gifts. They are the same “VIP hard cardboard boxes” many customers ask for — the industry simply has an exact name for them.

What sets our plant apart is a lid-and-base assembly line with an output of 1,000–3,000 boxes per day. In Moldova rigid boxes are usually assembled by hand, so serial runs are either declined or produced slowly and with uneven quality. Between 2023 and 2026 we produced more than a hundred rigid-box runs — from 20 to 3,000 pieces per run, from a 90×90×40 mm magnetic case to 655×325×125 mm boxes. Finishing — hot foil stamping, embossing, spot UV varnish, lamination — is done on automatic machines, and designer and metallised papers are imported directly from producers in Europe and Asia. We make a structural prototype in 30 minutes — you can evaluate it with your product inside. More about the plant on the “Production and technologies” page.

Box styles

  • Lid and base (two-piece box) — the classic set-up box; the fastest to assemble on the line, optimal for runs of 500–3,000 pcs.
  • Shoulder / neck box — the lid sits on an inner shoulder in a contrasting colour; the choice for cosmetics and perfumery.
  • Telescopic box — the lid covers the full height of the base; for bottles and tall sets.
  • Hinged-lid box with magnetic closure — opens with one hand; for jewellery, electronics, seasonal gift sets.
  • Sleeve and drawer box — with a pull ribbon or thumb cut-out; for chocolate, accessories, flacons.
  • Book-style box — magnetic body with a bookbinding-style cover; for corporate sets and partner gifts.
  • Lid and base with a window — a clear window in the lid; we produce these in 1,000-piece runs for confectionery sets.

Materials and finishing

The base is 1.5–3 mm greyboard (chipboard): thicker for large boxes, thinner for small cases. Wrapping: coated paper with offset printing, designer papers (linen, leather-look, metallic, soft touch), velvet and flock. Finishing: hot foil stamping (gold, silver, coloured foil), blind and raised embossing, spot UV varnish, matt and gloss lamination, ribbon, magnets. Inside — a foam, izolon or cardboard insert, lined with velvet or flock if required and designed in CAD to the geometry of your product: a bottle and two glasses, a set of flacons, a piece of jewellery, a device with accessories.

Quantity, lead time, price

Quantity. We also take small batches from a few dozen pieces (samples, limited editions), but as a rule it becomes noticeably more economical from a few hundred pieces: most of the cost — structural design, cutting dies, foil plates and make-ready — is divided by the run, so the unit price falls several times between 100 and 1,000 pcs.

Lead time. The average production time on our 2025–2026 orders is about two weeks after the prototype and artwork are approved; simple lid-and-base boxes without an insert are faster, complex structures with imported paper take longer. Prototype — 30 minutes; a printed sample — by agreement.

Price. Depends on size, board thickness, wrapping paper, printing, finishing, magnet and insert. For a quotation send the dimensions, the quantity and, if you have one, a photo of the box you have in mind to contact@pergament.md or call +373 79 044 417. Shipping abroad — by arrangement.

How to order

  1. Send the dimensions of the product or the box, the quantity and your wishes for structure and finishing.
  2. Our technologist proposes the structure and materials; we make a prototype and a quotation.
  3. You approve the artwork (PDF/AI, CMYK or Pantone); if needed, our designer develops the structure and the graphics.
  4. Printing, wrapping, foil stamping, line assembly, inserts, packing in corrugated shipping cartons, delivery in Chișinău and across Moldova.

Rigid box FAQ

How much does one rigid box cost at 100 / 500 / 1,000 pcs?

The unit price depends on size, board thickness, wrapping paper, printing, finishing, magnet and insert, so we quote on specific parameters. The main rule: make-ready (structural design, cutting dies, foil plates, set-up) is a fixed amount divided by the run, so between 100 and 1,000 pcs the unit price falls several times. Send the dimensions and quantity — we return a quotation with options.

What is the minimum order quantity? Do you do gang runs?

We accept small batches from a few dozen pieces — for samples and limited editions — but a run becomes economical from a few hundred pieces. Every box is designed for your product rather than to someone else's standard size.

What is the lead time and is there a rush option?

On our 2025–2026 orders the average lead time is about two weeks after the artwork and prototype are approved: a simple lid-and-base box without an insert is faster, a complex structure with imported paper takes longer. A rush run is possible by agreement with production — it depends on line load and material availability.

Can you make a prototype or a sample before the run?

Yes. We make an unprinted structural prototype in 30 minutes — you can try it with your product right at the printing house. A printed and finished sample is made by agreement.

What is a lid-and-base box and how does it differ from a folding carton?

A lid-and-base (rigid, set-up) box consists of two parts made of 1.5–3 mm greyboard wrapped in paper; it does not fold and holds its shape like a case. A folding carton is die-cut from 250–400 g/m² paperboard and shipped flat — it is cheaper and more compact, but feels like packaging rather than an object.

Which box styles do you make?

Lid and base, shoulder/neck boxes, telescopic boxes, hinged-lid boxes with magnetic closure, sleeves, drawer boxes, book-style boxes and lid-and-base boxes with a clear window. Our technologist selects the structure for your product and checks it on a prototype.

What inserts can you make?

Foam, izolon or cardboard; the surface can be lined with velvet or flock if required. The insert is designed in CAD to the geometry of the product: a bottle and glasses, a set of flacons, a piece of jewellery, a device with accessories.

What finishing is available?

Hot foil stamping (gold, silver, coloured foil), blind and raised embossing, spot UV varnish, matt and gloss lamination, soft-touch papers, ribbon, magnetic closure. Finishing is done on automatic equipment, so the run comes out uniform.

What board and paper do you use?

The base is 1.5–3 mm greyboard (bookbinding board): thicker for large boxes, thinner for small cases. Wrapping — coated paper with offset printing or designer papers: linen, leather-look, metallic, soft touch, velvet and flock. Designer and metallised materials are imported directly from producers in Europe and Asia.

How do I send artwork, and do you offer design services?

We accept PDF or AI in CMYK, spot colours by Pantone; the dieline for the structure is sent after the prototype is approved. If you have no artwork, our designer develops the structure and the graphics.

Do you deliver, and how are the boxes packed for transport?

We deliver in Chișinău and across Moldova; for export we prepare the shipment to the customer's requirements. Finished boxes are packed in corrugated cartons with dividers so that corners and wrapping arrive without scuffs.

Do you make boxes for a specific industry — wine, cosmetics, chocolates, jewellery?

Yes, these are our main directions: boxes for 1–3 bottles of wine or divin with an insert, cosmetics and perfumery sets, windowed lid-and-base boxes and sleeves for confectionery, magnetic cases for jewellery, corporate gift sets.

Can I order unprinted boxes and add a logo later?

Yes: the box can be wrapped in plain designer paper and the logo applied by hot foil or blind embossing — right away or in a separate batch later. For small runs this is often the most economical option.

How eco-friendly is this packaging?

Greyboard and wrapping paper are recyclable materials, and a rigid box, unlike single-use packaging, is usually kept and reused. On request we check the availability of FSC-certified papers for your run.

Which is cheaper — lid and base or a magnetic lid, and how much do an insert and foil add?

A lid-and-base box is simpler to produce and faster to assemble on the line, so at equal dimensions it is cheaper than a magnetic case. An insert and foil stamping add much less to the unit price than the box itself, yet influence the perception of the gift the most — exact figures are shown in the quotation for your parameters.
