“Request three quotes and compare the prices” is poor advice in print. Packaging and multi-page products have no price “per piece” — they have the price of a run, and it is built from operations: board, printing plates, die-cutting, gluing, finishing. Two quotes with the same bottom line can hide different board, different tooling and very different odds of your run arriving on time and as designed. So instead of comparing numbers, compare how the printing house itself is built: what it prints on, what documents back its material safety, where your orders are stored, and what its lead times are made of.
Below are six criteria — we are an interested party ourselves, so each one is verifiable with questions and documents, for any printer in Moldova, including us.
1. The machine park: what your run will actually be made on
For medium and large packaging runs the core technology is offset printing with die-cutting: the best per-unit price at volume, stable colour from run to run, and the full finishing arsenal. Ask directly: which machines will print the job, and which operations does the printer perform in-house? Every outsourced operation means someone else’s queue and someone else’s deadlines inside your order.

2. Ready-made cutting dies: the line item people forget to ask about
A box is not cut out — it is die-cut on a press with a cutting die: a board with blades following the blank’s contour and creasing rules for the folds. A new design means the die must be engineered, made and set up — money, and days added to the lead time. A printer with history accumulates a tooling archive over the years: ours holds more than 3,000 ready dies. If your design matches one, that line item disappears from the quote entirely and the run ships sooner.
The question “do you have a ready die for my box?” can change both price and deadline more than any discount negotiation.
3. Food packaging — only with documents
If the packaging touches food, the printer must hold an ANSP sanitary approval issued for its own products, plus a laboratory test report for the finished, tested box. Pergament holds ANSP approval P-23739/2026 (valid until 04.08.2029); laboratory tests of the finished box showed overall migration of 4.3 mg/dm² against the permitted limit of 10 — a safety margin of more than double. We print with low-migration inks, on the outer side only.

4. The management system: where your order lives
Ask where the job’s technical specification is kept. If it lives in a manager’s notebook, inbox or memory, your order is fragile: the person leaves, and the board grade, inks and agreements leave with them. The alternative is a production management system (MIS), where the order lives from inquiry to delivery note: a job ticket detailed down to small things, the history of every run, and an invoice generated from the same calculation that produced the price.
We were the first printing house in Moldova to move onto an MIS — PSystem, in 2014; more than 36,800 orders have gone through it since, and every one is still stored. 62.5% of our clients come back with repeat orders, and 93% of all orders come from returning clients. A good test question for any printer: “will you repeat my run exactly, two years from now, if the manager changes — yours or ours?” How this works at our end is laid out on the Order process page.
5. Lead times: what an honest answer sounds like
An honest deadline is quoted from the machine-load schedule: behind the shipping date stands a slot in a specific press’s calendar. The answer “three days, same as for everyone”, given before the job has even been calculated, should worry you as much as a deadline three times longer than the competition’s.

Faster with a ready die; in high season lead times can grow.
6. A prototype before the run
A production packaging run means offset and die-cutting. But the design can be verified before the series: digital printing plus a cutting plotter produce a physical sample in 1–2 days — no printing plates, no die. You can hold the box, put it on a shelf, show it to a retail chain — and only then order the run. The usual client path: prototype → pilot batch printed digitally → production run on offset.
How to check all of this with a single inquiry
Send the same inquiry to several printers: dimensions or a sample of the product, the quantity (better two or three options), the purpose — and look at the replies. Did they calculate options or send a single number; did they ask about food contact; did they say whether a ready die exists; what is the deadline built from?
