Lid-and-base gift boxes made of designer cardboard with gold foil stamping

The lid-and-base box is one of the most popular gift packaging constructions: its clean shape, easy opening and snug-fitting lid make it a universal solution for confectionery, accessories and corporate gifts. As part of this order, the Pergament printing house in Chisinau produced two types of lid-and-base gift boxes: a square green box measuring 210×210×30 mm and a rectangular black box measuring 230×170×30 mm.

Both boxes are made of mass-coloured designer cardboard: the green one from olive cardboard with a density of 250 g/m², the black one from black cardboard of 330 g/m². Unlike ordinary coated cardboard, designer stock has the same colour throughout the entire thickness of the sheet — no white core shows at the folds, edges or inside the box, so the packaging looks seamless and premium from every angle. The pronounced surface texture enhances the tactile impression: this kind of packaging is a pleasure to hold.

The blanks were offset printed in 4+0. On the green box, the printing forms a subtle tone-on-tone pattern — a motif executed in a colour close to that of the cardboard. From a distance the surface looks solid, while up close the pattern reveals itself, adding depth to the packaging.

The centrepiece of the finishing is gold hot foil stamping on the lids of both boxes. The metallised foil is applied with a heated die measuring 80×52 mm: the brand’s anniversary artwork receives a mirror-like golden shine that ordinary printing cannot imitate. The combination of deep green or black designer cardboard with gold foil stamping is the classic formula for premium packaging — exactly the kind of solution chosen for anniversary, limited and image-driven series.

The lid-and-base construction is a two-part one: the lid and the base of each box are die-cut from separate blanks using their own cutting dies. The printing house’s library contains more than 3,000 ready-made cutting dies, including numerous lid-and-base formats — the customer can choose an existing construction and cut launch time and cost, while for a non-standard task the printing house will develop an individual die.
