Pergament manufactures leak-proof paperboard bowls with snug clear lids in Chișinău — packaging for ready meals, delivery and HoReCa that gets food to the customer exactly as it left the kitchen. Moldova is phasing out single-use plastics step by step: single-use plastic tableware has been banned since 2021 (Law No. 231/2010 on domestic trade), and in July 2026 a ban on EPS (expanded polystyrene) food containers was put out for public consultation, in line with EU Directive 2019/904. A paperboard bowl with a lid settles the question ahead of time: the same convenience for the kitchen, the courier and the customer — with a paperboard body instead of plastic.

Leak-proof by design, not by promise

We commissioned and tested the moulds for these bowls and lids with a single brief: no leaks. Bowl and lid come off a matched pair of machines — a paperboard bowl forming machine and a lid thermoforming machine — so the bowl rim and the lid lock align precisely. The lid snaps on with real resistance and stays put when carried, in a thermal bag, and through every turn of the courier’s route.

  • No fear of sauces: dishes in sauce and dressed salads arrive without leaking.
  • Handles heat — straight from the oven and off the grill: body and lid are rated for food up to 100 °C; hot kebab that melts EPS foam containers leaves the paperboard body unfazed.
  • Body — PE-laminated paperboard: a barrier against grease and moisture, a rigid shape that doesn’t go soggy.
  • Lid — thermoformed clear food-grade PET: customers see the contents without opening.

Volumes and formats

Five sizes, all octagonal (a rectangle with cut corners), each with its own clear lid:

VolumeTop, mmBase, mmHeight, mm
420 ml130×13090×9045
700 ml186×136145×9545
900 ml215×115190×9045
1000 ml199×138175×11444
1400 ml215×170190×14545

420 ml suits a side sauce or a dessert; 700–1000 ml covers standard portions of mains, salads and wok dishes; 900 ml is a low, elongated format for sushi rolls and sets; 1400 ml is a family portion or catering size.

3-compartment sauce tray: three sauces in one pack

A separate item in the range is the leak-proof 3-compartment sauce tray, 120×82 mm, with a clear PET lid: one round compartment and two smaller ones. The classic use case is a sushi set — soy sauce, wasabi and ginger travel in one pack without mixing or leaking. The second is dips: two or three sauces for nuggets, fries or shawarma in a single tray instead of three separate cups.

For open service at the counter we also make a self-assembly sauce cup without a lid — the sauce tray, by contrast, is lidded and built for delivery.

Who it’s for

  • Sushi and pan-Asian delivery — sets with three sauces and wok dishes in leak-proof bowls.
  • Lunch delivery and catering — a complete set lunch arrives in the thermal bag with no leaks.
  • Meal prep and ready-meal producers — portioning meal plans: 420–1000 ml sizes, a clear lid for the display case.
  • Fast food and grill: burger joints, shawarma, kebab — kebab and hot dishes straight off the fire, sides, salads and dips to go.
  • Restaurants on delivery platforms — every dish on the menu arrives the way it left the kitchen.

Food contact: ANSP approval and testing

Pergament’s own paperboard food packaging holds ANSP sanitary approval P-23739/2026 (issued August 2026, valid until 04.08.2029), covering paperboard boxes of any size, with or without a printed logo. Laboratory testing (report No. 51034746) measured overall migration of 4.3 mg/dm² against a permitted limit of 10 mg/dm² — a safety margin of more than two times. The lids are food-grade PET. Details and documents are on the food packaging certification page.

Frequently asked questions about paperboard bowls

Are plastic food containers banned in Moldova?

There is no full ban yet. Since 1 January 2021, the sale and use of single-use plastic tableware — plates, cups and other table-serving items — has been prohibited (Law No. 231/2010 on domestic trade). In July 2026, the Ministry of Environment put a ban on EPS (expanded polystyrene) food containers out for public consultation, aligning with EU Directive 2019/904. Switching to paperboard bowls takes you out of the path of the single-use plastics Moldova is phasing out — ahead of time.

Are the bowls really leak-proof?

Yes. The moulds were commissioned and tested specifically for leak-proof performance: bowl and lid come off a matched pair of machines, the rim and lid-lock geometry align precisely, and the lid seats tightly and holds firm. Dishes in sauce and dressed salads survive delivery without leaking.

What temperature can they take?

Up to 100 °C — hot dishes straight from the oven and off the grill. Hot grilled meat that burns through EPS foam containers doesn’t harm the PE-laminated paperboard body — it keeps its shape.

What volumes and formats are available?

Five octagonal sizes: 420, 700, 900, 1000 and 1400 ml, each with its own clear PET lid. Plus a leak-proof 3-compartment sauce tray, 120×82 mm, for sauces.

What certifies them as safe for food contact?

ANSP sanitary approval P-23739/2026 (issued August 2026, valid until 04.08.2029) covering Pergament’s paperboard food packaging. Laboratory testing measured overall migration of 4.3 mg/dm² against a permitted limit of 10 mg/dm². The lids are food-grade PET.

What are the minimum order and lead times?

Standard bowls with lids ship from stock in Chișinău, with no production lead time. A run with your logo is produced within two weeks. For regular supply we store your run at our warehouse and ship in scheduled batches.

Can I order the bowls with my logo?

Yes — branding is a print house’s core work: your logo, brand colours and design to match your presentation. A branded run takes up to two weeks; while it’s in production, you can work from standard stock bowls.
